One4life is an initiative of one1seven church, Redfern, that seeks to help locals in the Redfern/Waterloo areas who are struggling with life. Many of the locals have histories of drug abuse, domestic violence and mental illness which in turn often leads to isolation and separation from the wider community. Our aim therefore is to provide a safe community which they can be part of and to share with them the love of Christ Jesus in action. One4life currently includes a community meal, an ESL class and a support group for those dealing with addiction.
One4food is a community meal in which locals gather and eat a free meal every Friday evening. It is from 5:30-6:30 in the rear hall and the food is delivered by Oz Harvest who kindly provide the food. All of the team members who serve in this ministry are regular members of one1seven church and they faithfully come week by week to help out (thanks team!).
The ESL program currently meets in the rear hall every 1st and 3rd Friday from 10:30am – 12:00pm. Members of the church help run the program and attendees are able to practise their speaking and listening skills, improve their grammar and learn a little bit about Jesus each time. At the moment the English program caters to Beginners and Elementary level students.
The support group for addicts meets in the rear hall every 2nd and 4th Friday from 10:30am – 12:00pm. It is a part of the Overcomers Outreach network which seeks to support people with any addiction and help them work through their addiction with Jesus’ help.
