Meet Our Pastor

Matt Johnson is one1seven's lead pastor, serving our church as we grow together in Christ. Raised in a Christian home Matt rebelled against Jesus as a young man and did things that a reformed evangelical pastor should never admit. But by God’s grace, Jesus saved Matt, introduced him to his wonderful wife – Naomi, got him through Bible College, gave him four great kids and enabled him to serve three years as an associate pastor on the Central Coast, four years as lead pastor in a W.A. mining town and since March 2010 has placed him on assignment at one1seven church.

Matt says – “Jesus is great and he has always proved faithful, even when I have been unfaithful. So I want people to know Jesus’ grace, his goodness and his unconditional love. From the arid harshness of the Pilbara desert to the cosmopolitan boutique brasseries of Surry Hills – Jesus is Lord. We have no doubt one1seven church is where Jesus now wants us to be and we love living in South Sydney. The only difficulty is finding an excuse to engage low-range in the Prado.”

Matt enjoys a challenge, loves talking about Jesus, spending time with his family, going off-road in the Prado, reading reformed puritan theology, singing God’s praise and relaxing with a nice splash of red.
