On 1st February 2015, we started something new. A new church.
When Jesus speaks about ‘church’ in the Bible, he always means people, not buildings. So when we talk about one1seven Green Square as a new church, we are talking about a new community of people who love God and love one another.
one1seven church in Green Square aims to be a church that loves and enriches our community by calling people to follow Jesus.
We want to be a place where people come together, where lives are enriched by the saving and transformative power of God’s love. We want to be a place where Jesus is talked about, where people share life together and where the love of God overflows into the communities of Green Square.
In 2014, we started with a small team, introducing ourselves to our community, looking for ways to serve and love our area. We started to get involved in our local school, developed initiatives to welcome new comers to the area and joined with our partner church in Redfern to serve the housing commission and needy people of our area. From April, we commenced a Bible Discussion Group on Sunday afternoons, where we simply read a section from Luke’s Gospel and discussed the life of Jesus.
In the first week of February 2015, we began our public services. The passage chosen was the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37) – a wonderful reminder of our need to love Jesus, then to love our neighbour with the same unlimited care that he has shown us. It was a passage that perfectly illustrated our vision for who we want to be as a church.
one1seven church Green Square is made up of local people who love Jesus and love this area. We are excited to serve and enrich our community.
We meet as a church every Sunday. Each week there is an engaging Bible talk and a kids program. You don’t have to be a Christian to come – the curious and sceptical are always welcome. We’d love to see you there!
